After 2 Years: Beta 1.0 is finally here!
May I present to you, Beta 1.0 of Orbits: The Sandbox!
Over the past two years, I have been working on updates to Orbits: The Sandbox whenever I've had the time. At times I've been very busy with University, but as of this summer that's finally behind me! These updates have however been kept a secret, unavailable to the public, until this very moment!
The Mission
Orbits: The Sandbox is essentially a big toy-box , in which you can play with planets, moons and other objects in space. There's no objective, you can't loose or do anything wrong, you just chill out and make pretty patterns or unleash pandemonium on the galaxy!
My aim for this project is to inspire joy, enthusiasm and excitement with space and physics in children and adults alike. Later down the line a key focus will be the integration of interesting educational material such as mind-blowing facts about space, demonstration of physical phenomena and links with online learning resources.
Beta - a New Phase of Development
This update brings some major changes to the game, but whilst packed full of love, does not even come close to my final vision for Orbits: The Sandbox. This update marks the beginning of regular updates to the game; new features will be constantly coming in throughout this beta, feedback will be listened to and bugs fixed.
This release makes the transition of Orbits: The Sandbox from a free game. As a thank you for their generous support, any early supporters who have purchased the game so far will receive a full copy of all future versions. The same will be true for anyone who chooses to support the game in this Beta phase, upon the release of the full version. The Alpha will remain available as a free demo, at least for the time being, as an experimental way of letting users try before they buy.
The main changes brought by the Beta release are outlined below. Stay tuned for a road-map in future posts!
